The Afro-Latino Festival of New York is pleased to announce its lineup for Afro-Latino Fest NYC 2015. This year the Festival has expanded to a three-day event with 20+ artists representing 10+ countries taking place at various locations throughout N.Y.C.
The Festival starts on Friday July 10, 2015 at 7pm with an Opening Gala honoring accomplished members of the Afrolatino community including, New York Times Bureau Chief for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, Randal Archibold, New York State Assemblyman 68th District, Robert J. Rodriguez, Founder and Director of the Caribbean Cultural Center and African Diaspora Institute, Dr. Marta Moreno Vega, author Willie Perdomo and Tech Journalist/CEO, Janel Martinez. The night will include performances by the Fat Afro Latin Jazz Cats a youth orchestra directed by 2015 Latin Jazz Grammy winner Arturo O’ Farrill. Expect performances by NYC salsa band Los Hacheros and others and will close with special guest recording artist Danay Suarez.
Day 2 | Saturday, July 11 at The Wick located in Bushwick, Brooklyn features three different panels called, “AfrolatinTalks: The Intersection of Culture, Technology and Afrolatinidad”. It ends with a Dance Party and Concert hosted by popular NYC tropical bass DJs Que Bajo?! who recently performed at the Red Bull Academy, as well as 2007 Latin Grammy winners, Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto.
Day 3 | Sunday, July 12 to be held at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza, Brooklyn, will include dance workshops art exhibitions and musical performances by artists including Chop and Quench “The Fela! Band”, Profetas, Les Nubians, Kafu Banton and Cultura Profética. While there will be a fee for admission on Day 1 & 2, Day 3 will be FREE GENERAL ADMISSION.
