Presented by The Anglo-Ethiopian Society.
On Tuesday 26 August the Society's book club will meet to discuss Sebastian O'Kelly's war-time love story "Amedeo: The True Story of an Italian's War in Abyssinia."
Set in Ethiopia, Eritrea, and the Yemen during 1935-1945 it is a rare English language view of the Second World War from an Italian perspective. It tells the tale of Amedeo Guillet, a young aristocratic cavalry officer, who met and fell in love with Khadija, a beautiful Ethiopian Muslim.
Together they held up British lorries on the mountain road to Asmara and in 1941 Amedeo led what was to be the last cavalry charge of the war against a battalion of British tanks. When the Italians surrendered, Amedeo went on the run disguised as an Arab eventually making it to Yemen.
Amedeo is available in hardcover (ISBN 9780002572194), paperback (ISBN 9780006552475) and in Kindle formats.
