Speaker: Barnaby Phillips, author; Respondent (TBC)
In ‘Another Man's War’, veteran foreign correspondent Barnaby Phillips delivers the gripping, unforgettable story of a Burma Boy in the Second World War and the legacy of the British Empire in Africa and Asia.
In 1941, at the height of the Second World War, Isaac Fadoyebo, a precocious 16 year-old from rural Nigeria, defied his father and enlisted in the British army. He was one of some 100,000 Africans sent halfway round the world to fight the Japanese in Burma.
Within weeks of his arrival, Isaac’s unit was ambushed and he was left for dead. He survived with the help of a local family, the memory of whom he cherished long after he returned to Nigeria in 1945.
Join the author Barnaby Phillips as he discusses this story of friendship and courage which transcends race and culture, and explores how Britain forgot its debt to African soldiers.
