Liya Kebede Talks Lead Role in "Desert Flower"

Desert Flower is the moving autobiographical story of Somali model, Waris Dirie. The movie stars super model, Fashion Designer, activist  and now actress Liya Kebede. Released back in 2009 in 20 countries the film went on to winning Best Movie at the Bavarian Film Awards in Munich and the Audience Award in the Best European Film category at the San Sebastian International Film Festival. 

The Story tells how Waris Dirie, who at age thirteen escapes her arranged marriage and runs away to London. Waris is later discovered by world famous photographer Terence Donovan, and becomes a household name in the fashion world, working for companies such as Chanel, Vogue and is the first African model to get an exclusive contract with Revlon.

After making it big in the fashion industry Waris uses her postion as a super model to bring attention to the abolition of Female Genital Mutilation(FGC)  as US ambassador. 

Liya Kebede debut in the film is excellent, who better to play Waris but another fellow African women and high fashion model.
