Twenty years after their last concert the famous Roha Band is back on stage with the legendary Mahmoud Ahmed and:
The Ibex band was formed in the 1970 and played in Ras Hotel for more than 12 years. Among its main players were: Giovanni Rico ( Bass); Selam Seyoum ( Lead Guitar ); Tedros Metiku ( Tenor Sax); Fekade Amdemeskel ( Tenor / Alto/ Flute); Hailemariam ( Keyborad); Tesfaye Mekonen ( Drums) ; Girma Chibssa ( Congs Drums). It is the band that produced numerous recordings with other singers. It’s greatest production was Mohamud’s first two albums – Mela Mela and Tizeta. The band disbanded in the early 1980’s
The Roha Band was formed in the early 1980’s right after the Ibex Band was disbanded. Members of the Ibex Band, namely Giovanni ; Selam and Fekade got together with Dawit Yifru, who was a member of the Dahlak Band and agreed to form a new band. The core members of the band were Giovanni Rico ( Bass); Selam Seyoum ( Lead Guitar ); Fekade Amdemeskel ( Tenor / Alto/ Flute); Dawit Yifru ( Keyborad); Tekle Tesfazigie ( Drums) ; Levon Fondachi ( Vocals). The Roha Band went on to dominat the Ethiopian music scene playing at the Hilton Hotel and Ghion Hotel. In addition it took part in numerous national and international music festivals travelling all over the Middle East; Europe and the United States. It recorded Mohamud’s subsequent albums and other renowned singers producing some 400 albums.
Even though the Roha Band disbanded in the early 1990’s, most of the members are still active. It recently finalized the production of Epherem Tameru’s album composed of songs he had recorded previously with the same band. The Roha Band is now on stage after an absence of almost 20 years in honor of Mohamud Ahmed’s art contribution festival organized by the Alliance Francaise
