The Diaspora Leadership Training (DLT) is a four-part workshop series offered by Semhar Araia, CEO of Semai Consulting, LLC and founder of the Diaspora African Women's Network. Course Descriptions
May 16 | Leadership 101: This opening session is a full-day workshop that will introduce participants to the core tenets of leadership and help identify their goals as diaspora changemakers. Participants will be asked to explore their motivations, explore their desired mission and craft their message.
June 6 | Diaspora Agendas & Constituencies: This half-day workshop will introduce participants to the concepts of change goals and target audiences and help them develop their diaspora agenda for international development. Participants will identify what communities they seek to support in their home and host countries and who their target audiences are to help advance development in their home countries. This session will include an overview of constituencies, civic engagement and effective organizing.
June 27 | Diasporas in Development: This half-day workshop will help participants understand the role of diaspora in international development and identify best practices of engagement for their respective constituencies. This will include an overview of types of diaspora engagement, such as voluntourism, fundraising, humanitarian and development projects, and civic engagement.
July 18 | Putting Diaspora Leadership into Practice: This half-day workshop will explore the challenges and opportunities unique to diaspora organizing and incorporate previous lessons on organizing, advocacy and constituency building. Participants will explore best practices of diaspora outreach, messaging, capacity building and advocacy
