The Best African Headgear Competition 2014 aims to celebrate the elaborate styles, forms and shapes of headdresses worn in the UK. Across Africa and in the Caribbean the wearing of headgear or a head wrap is a sartorial tradition going back hundreds of years.
“I think African women look really stylish and very confident in their head wraps and we want to celebrate their visual style,” says Sundjata Keita, the co-ordinator of Brixton Summer Weekender.
There will be cash prizes for the best headgear on the day.
