Black and Asian poets in the UK: a two-part evening of discussion and performance.
(Presented by the Complete Works II – promoting diversity and quality in British poetry)
Part One: The Discussion. Panel debate led by writer Bernardine Evaristo
In 2007 the Free Verse report (Arts Council England) established that of the poets published by major presses in the UK, less than 1% are black or Asian. How much has this changed?
Panel includes Michael Schmidt (Carcanet), Neil Astley (Bloodaxe) and poet Kei Miller.
Part Two: The Performance. Launch of Ten: The New Wave (Bloodaxe, 2014)
Ten of the most exciting young black and Asian poets in the UK present their work, including Mona Arshi, Jay Bernard, Kayo Chingonyi, Rishi Dastidar, Edward Doegar, Inua Ellams, Sarah Howe, Adam Lowe, Eileen Pun and Warsan Shire.
Hosts for the evening are Roger Robinson (internationally acclaimed musician and poet) and Malika Booker (recently shortlisted for the Seamus Heany first collection prize).
Part One: 18:15pm – 19:30
Part Two: 20:00 – 22:00
